[Also in Groups XVI and XXIX] In apparatus for withdrawing collapsed folding boxes seriatim from a pack, opening the extracted boxes and re-collapsing them in the reversed condition, collapsed boxes are packed in a container 1 provided with a pusher member (not shown) which urges the pack of boxes toward an open end of the container, which end is adjacent a rotatable drum 4 provided with elongated suction nozzles formed by slots 11a, 11, the nozzles being periodically brought into connection with a suction pipe 5 also serving as a shaft for the drum 4. Between each pair of nozzles is a spiker 17 which is reciprocated vertically by the engagement of a roller 18 in a cam track 19 formed in a cylinder 3 housing the drum 4. Each nozzle is provided with a non-return valve 12 comprising a leaf spring carrying clips 13, 14 and having slots 15 for flow of suction air. The foremost box 20 is separated from the pack of folded boxes and opened to some extent by means comprising a pair of devices having a common shaft 36 and each consisting of a pivoted finger 33 spring-urged against an eccentric 35. An arm 31 pivotally connected to an arm 37 has a cam projection 40 engaging a stationary roller 41, and a notch 38 is formed at the end of the arm 31. When the shaft 36 is rotated clockwise, the flats on the eccentrics 35 allow the fingers 33 to move upward and the top edge of the foremost box 20 is released. Simultaneously, the arms 31 are retracted and the box 20 is urged into the notches 38. Subsequent rotation of the eccentric in an anticlockwise direction causes the hooked ends of the fingers 33 to move back into the path of the next box in the pack and the arms 31 move forward to the position shown. A stationary guide plate 24 in co-operation with a spiker and a suction nozzle causes the box to open fully and then re-collapse, the box passing between the drum and a roller 10 and finally through delivery rollers 34, 35. In the event of a faulty engagement of a box on a nozzle, atmospheric pressure causes the leaf spring of valve 12 to flatten, the slots 15 to be closed and the suction to be cut off, thus releasing the box. In a modification (Figs. 6-8 not shown) vertical pins provided on a rotatable disc assist the action of the nozzles and spikers. The drum may be provided with nozzles or spikers only, where the material of the boxes is suitable. |
