The adapter (1) has inlet opening (20) for introducing fluid that is connected with exhaust opening (21) through a connecting line section. The exhaust opening is connected to a fluid channel (9) of the dental instrument (2) in mounted state of the adapter. The adapter is constructed such that the exhaust opening is connected with the inlet opening and the only one fluid channel in mounted state at each point of time. An independent claim is included for a method for cleaning fluid channels of powered dental instrument with disinfectant.
