An apparatus and a method for providing SMS(Short Message Service), a terminal for the same, and a recording medium storing a program to realize the same are provided to offer SMS through interworking with various servers by providing SMS in accordance with SIP(Session Initiation Protocol) standards. An apparatus for providing SMS comprises a message analysis part(220), an SMS processing part(240), and a control part(230). If a SIP message is received from a terminal(100), the message analysis part analyzes whether the SIP message conforms with a preset format. The SIP message contains a user's ID, a callback number, a service type, an SMS message, and a destination number. If so, the SMS processing part transmits the SIP message to the destination number contained in the SIP message, and receives a result based on the transmission of the SIP message. The control part controls the message analysis part and the SMS processing part. The control part receives the SIP message from the message analysis part, provides the received SIP message to the SMS processing part, receives a transmission result from the SMS processing part, and transmits it to the terminal. |
