Automatic safety shutdown for tools or work devices

The method involves producing a high frequency electromagnetic alternating field partly around a motor powered tool i.e. motor chain saw (6). Voltage is induced in a conductor loop (22) contained in a protective clothing (18) e.g. jacket, of a person when the tool approaches the clothing. The voltage is measured by a measuring and evaluating system (26) and compared with a preset threshold value. The tool is deactivated when the voltage exceeds the threshold value. A disconnection signal is transmitted to a motor control unit (32) of the tool to deactivate the tool. An independent claim is also included for a device for protecting a person before occurrence of physical injury caused by a motor powered tool i.e. motor chain saw.
