PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus having a configuration capable of appropriately setting a charging condition for a charging roller even when an actual temperature on a charging roller is different from a detection result measured by an ambient sensor on the apparatus.SOLUTION: It is assumed that a current value which flows from a charging roller to a photoreceptor drum when a predetermined AC voltage αVpp is applied as γ(μA); and a proper current value when a preset AC voltage αVpp is applied as &bgr;(μA), &sgr;=proper AC current &bgr;-AC current γ. Also it is assumed that a limit value which is preset based on a detection result by the ambient sensor as |&sgr;'|. When it is determined as |&sgr;|>|&sgr;'|, the charging condition is changed to a B condition which is a charging condition different from an A condition which is preset according to temperature and humidity detection results. B condition is set based on positive/negative &sgr;. |
