A method for determining the impact of one or more design parameters of a product, such as dimensions and tolerances, material characteristics, roughness, density, friction coefficient, viscosity, hardness, etc. on the functional performance of the product, wherein the function can be expressed as a numerical value. The method inciudes obtaining a desired numerical value for the `function, determining or obtaining the design parameters that have an impact on the function, determinirg an nominal value for each design parameter that resuits result in the desired numerical value for the function, applying an equal deviation to the nominal values in the set of values, determining the change of the value of the function as a result of the deviation of each parameter individually with the other values in the set kept at the nominal value, and using the result of the determination above to compute for each of the parameters and possibly also for the functiorial performance a sensitivity number indicating the sensitivity of the value of the functional performance to deviation of the parameter concerned.
