The purpose of the present invention is: to provide a means whereby it is possible to quickly, efficiently and accurately evaluate a substance having an effect on the biochemical reaction of a cell growth factor; to provide a method for screening a substance having an effect on the biochemical reaction of a cell growth factor by applying the aforementioned means; and to put the substance found by means of the aforementioned screening method into effective use. This biochemical evaluation method is characterized in that the alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity value and the cell growth degree of dermal papilla cells obtained by culturing dermal papilla cells (A) under specific conditions are measured, and the biochemical action of a substance to be evaluated with regard to the biochemical action of the dermal papilla cells (A) is evaluated in accordance with specific evaluation standards.
