PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent antioxidant and an excellent elastase activity inhibitor having potentials for an antiaging agent and an anti-wrinkle effect to improve elasticity and flexibility of skin for restoring and maintaining stiffness of the skin; and a highly-safe and stable cosmetic useful for preventing and improving aging of skin by blending the antioxidant and the elastase activity inhibitor exhibiting excellent effect.SOLUTION: The antioxidant and the elastase activity inhibitor each include a water extract of chestnut shells, which is prepared by further extracting a solvent extract of chestnut shells prepared by extracting chestnut shells with a solvent, as an active ingredient. Preferably, chestnut shells to be used are baked chestnut shells. The antioxidant or the elastase activity inhibitor is blended with the cosmetic.
