An image processing apparatus includes: a pattern determination section configured to determine a single color pattern which allows a feature thereof corresponding to a color of the color image to be represented by a density level of one single color; a watermark information embedding processing section configured to embed watermark information specifying a color of the color image into the single color pattern; and an image data creation section configured to apply the single color pattern including the watermark information embedded therein to the color image, and, from the resultant color image, create image data corresponding to a black-and-white image represented by the single color pattern including the watermark information embedded therein. An image data creation apparatus includes: an image data acquisition section configured to acquire image data corresponding to a black-and-white image which allows a feature thereof correlated with a color to be represented by a density level of one single color; a color determination section configured to determine a corresponding color which corresponds to the feature included in the black-and-white image; and a color image data creation section configured to create the color image data corresponding to a color image which allows an image area thereof indicating the feature to be represented in the corresponding color.
