A network establishing apparatus and method are provided to effectively establish a network environment by detecting validity of inputted IP information and testing whether to operate a network normally. A network connection sensing unit(110) senses whether an image display device is physically connected with a network. If the image display unit is physically connected with the network, a DHCP(Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) environment establishing unit(120) requests an IP lease from a DHCP server, and establishes a network environment by using the IP lease information provided in response to the request for the IP lease. If the DHCP environment establishing unit fails to receive a response to the request for the IP lease, a user environment setting unit(130) receives information required for establishing a network environment and establishes a network environment. |
