PURPOSE: A battery SOC estimation system method and a system thereof are provided to accurately estimate SOC, thereby providing accurate SOC data for a user. CONSTITUTION: The voltage and current of a battery are measured. A full charge capacity (FCC) is calculated based on the variance of voltage and the amount of integrated current for a certain amount of time. A self discharge rate is estimated using the FCC which includes an estimated time to fully discharge the battery and, the measured voltage and current. A capacity degradation rate of the battery per charging cycle is calculated. The battery SOC is estimated by calculating the self discharge rate until the calculated battery is fully discharged, and the FCC which is calculated by adding or subtracting the capacity degradation rate.
