PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor storage device capable of protecting confidential information.SOLUTION: A semiconductor storage device (1) comprises a memory (2) that includes an externally accessible area (32) and confidential information area (34) holding confidential information. The confidential information area includes an enabled flag (42). A control circuit (21) reads, when being instructed to erase data for the confidential information area, data in the confidential information area from the memory; determines whether the flag is enabled in the read data; erases the data in the confidential information area if it is disabled; and stops processing required by an instruction to erase data if it is enabled. An authentication circuit performs calculation for authentication using the data in the confidential information area.
