摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a graphite material which is suitable as an electrode material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery; a carbon material for a battery electrode; and an excellent secondary battery which has an extremely small irreversible capacity, while maintaining charge/discharge cycle characteristics, large-current load characteristics and discharge capacity at high levels.SOLUTION: A graphite material, in which an oxygen amount (a) (mass%) in the region from a particle surface to 40 nm in the depth direction is within the range of 0.010≤a≤0.04 as determined by the peak intensity of Oobtained by HAX-PES measurement using a hard X-ray of 7,940 eV, has coating, or has a surface to which a part of carbon fibers is bonded. A graphite material is obtained by mixing spherical natural graphite or artificial graphite having a dof 0.3370 nm or less relative to the graphite material.
