Materials of general formula (I) LixNiaCobMncOz (I) in which the variables are defined as follows: 0.2 <= a <= 0.5, 0.0 <= b <= 0.4, 0.4 <= c <= 0.65, 1.1 <= x <= 1.3, x + a + b + c - 0.2 <= z <= x + a + b + c + 0.2 and a + b + c = 1 wherein c/a >= 1.2, and wherein the material has a BET surface area of at least 3 m2/g; the invention further relates to the production of the material according to the invention and the use thereof.
