<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which enables a card owner to acknowledge the status that a rewritable film has degraded. <P>SOLUTION: The printer reads the number of times for recording to the rewritable film which has been recorded in an IC chip contained by a rewritable card. When the recording number of times exceeds a predetermined threshold value, printing data and a mark for exclusive use is printed in the rewritable film with the pattern different from usual one (pattern until exceeding the threshold value) by controlling the applied heat.
