PURPOSE: A desktop type security device and a method thereof are provided to facilitate installation and use by having a desktop type and determine whether someone breaks in or not using an infrared ray distance sensor as well as a heat ray sensor, thereby providing the security device with reliability. CONSTITUTION: A desktop type security device includes a heating ray sensing unit(10) sensing infrared rays generated from a monitored object in a monitored region, forming multiple monitored zones arranged to be crossed about the monitored region, and including multiple sensing modules sensing infrared rays generated through the multiple monitored zones, a signal processing unit(40) processing a signal outputted at the heating ray sensing unit and outputting the signal, a determining unit(50) determining whether someone breaks in or not in the monitored region based on the signal outputted at the signal processing unit, and a communications unit(60) transmitting a determined result of the determining unit.
