<p>A polytetrafluoroethylene composition comprises a body portion formed of normal nonporous polytetrafluorethylene, and a surface portion formed of a modified polytetrafluoroethylene to make said surface portion porous for absorbing a bonding agent to permit bonding with other materials, the composition being compressed and sintered to form a solid article. The surface portion may comprise (a) small particles of sintered polytetrafluorethylene; (b) compressed matted fibrous polytetrafluorethylene; (c) woven fabric or perforated sheet of polytetrafluorethylene; or (d) cloth woven from polytetrafluorethylene filaments and then roughened, or may be modified by the presence of particles of salt or other soluble material which after sintering are removed to form a porous surface portion.
