724,386. Seats. LORENZ, A. Oct. 20, 1953 [Oct. 22, 1952 ; Oct. 22, 1952], No. 28980/53. Class 62 (2). An adjustable reclining chair &c., wherein a structure including a seat and a back rest,' co-ordinated with each other in respect of their movements, is rockably mounted on a support, is characterized in that a controlling element swingably mounted on the support is in abutting engagement with a member of the structure and that means are interposed between the controlling element and a leg rest swingably mounted on the seat for effecting movements of the leg rest in co-ordination with the controlling element. As shown, the seat 20 and back rest 18 are rockably mounted at 22 on a support 10, the downward extension 24 of the back rest is connected by a link 26 to a link 32 mounted on the support at 34, this link 32 having a nose 44 in disengageable abutment with a controlling arm 42 also pivotally mounted on the support 10 at 34. A controlling link 48 connects the arm 42 with the leg rest 52 mounted on the seat at 54. When the back rest is swung into its extreme reclined position 18<SP>1</SP> the seat and leg rest assume positions 20<SP>1</SP>, 521. The leg rest 52, however, may be moved into an intermediate position 52<SP>11</SP> without movement of the back rest and seat from position. The seat 20 may be clamped to the support 10 by a clamping device 58, while a suitable clamping device 56 may lock the seat and leg rest in desired relative position. In modifications the abutment may be caused by a pin on one member engaging a slot in the other member to allow relative movement but prevent disengagement. Various forms of linkages may be employed and are described in the Specification. |
