PURPOSE: A digital broadcast transmitting method is provided to transmit a caption descriptor having caption information from a digital broadcast transmitter by attaching the caption descriptor to auxiliary data included in MPEG-2 Transport Stream, thereby improving user friendliness while using a caption. CONSTITUTION: A digital broadcast transmitter multiplexes video data, audio data, and auxiliary data including an Event Information Table (EIT) and a Program Map Table (PMT) using MPEG-2 Transport Stream (TS). The EIT or the PMT includes a caption descriptor containing caption information. After converting the multiplexed MPEG-2 TS to broadcast signals, the digital broadcast transmitter sends the broadcast signals. The caption descriptor includes caption information which represents whether the caption data included in the video data provides a digital closed caption service according to Electronic Industry Association (EIA)-708 or an analog closed caption service according to EIA-708.
