PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for a compression-ignition internal combustion engine, which stably continues a compression-ignition operation by properly controlling the residual volume of exhaust gas in a cylinder while having a simple configuration.SOLUTION: The control device for the compression-ignition internal combustion engine includes a variable valve mechanism capable of freely opening/closing an exhaust valve of the compression-ignition internal combustion engine (engine) in arbitrary valve lift amount or valve timing, and performs the compression-ignition operation of bringing about premixed compression-ignition combustion of an air-fuel mixture supplied to a combustion chamber of the engine. The control device detects a crank angle CA50 at which it is estimated that a predetermined combustion state arises during the compression-ignition operation of the engine (S12), and controls an operation of the variable valve mechanism so as to introduce the exhaust gas into the combustion chamber by opening the exhaust valve during an intake stroke on the basis of the detected crank angle CA50 (S14-S22). |
