PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shaft thickening method that can enhance work efficiency and product quality by easily pulling out a thickened workpiece from sleeves for holding both ends of the workpiece, without damaging the workpiece even in the shaft thickening method of axially compressing and rotating the bar-like workpiece and tilting one end.SOLUTION: The shaft thickening method includes a holding process of holding both ends of the metallic bar-like workpiece 10 using a pair of sleeves arranged along a reference line, and a shaft thickening process of pressing one sleeve toward the other sleeve 2b along the reference line to rotate the workpiece 10 around the reference line together with the sleeve, and tilting the other sleeve 2b. Prior to the holding process, an application process is performed to apply a mold release agent 12 for reducing frictional force between the workpiece 10 and the sleeve 2b, to the vicinity of both ends of the workpiece 10 or the inner peripheral surface of the sleeve 2b. |
