The power is compared with a power threshold, and an operating mode for a coolant flow heating device is determined based on a comparison result of the power with the power threshold. The coolant is jointly heated by a heat pump (1) and a complementary heating unit such as a boiler (20) and electric resistors, in a mixed operating mode in the device, where the heat pump transfers calories from a cold source towards heating circuits (3, 4). #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Method for controlling a coolant flow heating device (claimed), that heats a coolant flow i.e. water flow, and is arranged in a building i.e. home. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The instantaneous heating power to be produced is determined for the coolant, and is compared with the power threshold, thus optimizing the energy consumption, and obtaining comfort for the user to heat the coolant in a satisfying manner.
