The driving apparatus (1) has a first powertrain (7) provided with a self-locking worm gear portion (3a). A second powertrain (8) is provided with a low-friction gearbox (3b). The first powertrain and the second powertrain are disconnected from each other and are driven separately. The first powertrain is provided to unwind or close a roller shutter. The second powertrain is provided to wind or open the roller shutter.
