PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect abnormality of a print medium before paper feeding with high accuracy.SOLUTION: A printing apparatus 1 having a paper feeder includes an external paper supply tray 15 on which paper P is placed, a plurality of light sources 17a to 17c, 17e for illuminating light from above the paper P on the external paper supply tray 15, an imaging part 18 for imaging an upper surface of the paper P on the external paper supply tray 15, and a control part for controlling the plurality of light sources and the imaging part 18. The control part controls the plurality of light sources to sequentially set a plurality of illumination conditions, causes the imaging part 18 to image the upper surface of the paper P on the external paper supply tray 15 for each illumination condition, and determines whether or not the paper P on the external paper supply tray 15 is in a regular state based on similarity between a taken image group comprised of a plurality of taken images corresponding to the plurality of obtained illumination conditions and a regular image group corresponding to the paper in the regular state. |
