PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the precision of detection of a metallic foreign substance existing between a power transmitting side and a power receiving side.SOLUTION: A detection method comprises: applying pulses from a pulse generator to a resonant circuit provided with a Q-factor measurement coil 11 and one or more capacitors 12; driving a response-waveform detecting section 16 to detect a response waveform output by said resonant circuit in response to said pulses; and driving a Q-factor measuring section (microcomputer 17) to measure a Q factor of said resonant circuit from the detected response waveform.
