PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for manufacturing optical elements capable of carrying out a series machining steps including curved surface forming, polishing to the plurality of optical elements with high precision and by a simple installation.SOLUTION: The apparatus is equipped with a center gear 23 having outside teeth, an inside gear 25 arranged coaxially with the axis R1 of the center gear in the outer peripheral side of the center gear and having inside teeth, an upper axial motor 21 for turning one of the center gear and the inside gear around the axis R1, an upper axial holder 22 fixedly holding the other of the center gear and the inside gear, a plurality of planetary gears 24 holding the plurality of optical elements M respectively, each meshing with the center gear and the inside gear, driven with the one of the center gear and the inside gear, revolving and rotating in the plane perpendicular to the axis R1, and a machining tool 31 having a groove part 32 capable of abutting on the surfaces m1 to be machined of the optical elements with the respective optical elements M attached to the respective planetary gears and grinding or polishing the surfaces m1 to be machined by the relative movement to the optical elements M. |
