The invention relates to an optical navigation method and system for a pointing device on a monitor of a computer system, and includes: detecting by means of a plurality of optical sensors movement information generated by a user on said plurality of optical sensors; in a processing module, comparing the movement information obtained by the optical sensors with movement information of a series of predefined gestures, which are associated with the execution of one or more events; if the movement information detected by the optical sensors is equal to the movement information of any predefined gesture, executing the event, or events, associated with said predefined gesture; if the movement information detected by the optical sensors is different from that of any predefined gesture, moving a cursor on the monitor of the computer system in accordance with the movement information detected on the optical sensors. |
