<p>Provided is an image pickup element in which pixels that are photoelectric conversion elements are arranged at each of square grid intersections where a plurality of horizontal lines and a plurality of vertical lines intersect with each other. In a prescribed area of the image pickup element where the pixels are to be arranged, when arranging, of these pixels, a plurality of pixel pairs (XY) each of which comprises first and second phase difference detection pixels that detect a phase difference and are arranged adjacent to each other, on any one line among the above-mentioned lines (first line) and on a line that is parallel to the first line (second line) with a pixel pair as a unit, a plurality of pixel pairs are arranged on the first line such that the pairs are spaced apart by at least two pixels and are arranged on the second line at positions corresponding to the spacing between the pixel pairs on the first line.</p> |
