PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device, in an active matrix-type liquid crystal display device, which solves the problem that, though the number of masks used for the simplification of a production process is reduced, in the conventional process, the structure in which a gate signal line comes directly in contact with a liquid crystal part (including an alignment layer) must be taken, and that the liquid crystal part by the influence of the gate signal voltage is deteriorated; and to suppress the influence of the gate signal voltage on the liquid crystal part. SOLUTION: In the display device, a gate signal line is covered with an insulating film, and a liquid crystal part is not directly contacted. The constitution of the pixel part thereof is shown in the Fig.1. The display device having the insulating film can be produced by simultaneously pattern-forming the gate signal line and the insulating film thereon without increasing the number of the masks to be used. Further, the periphery of the gate signal line can be covered with a BM layer instead of producing the BM layer on a counter substrate, and the BM is used as the insulating layer.
