The tank has a base part (3) exhibiting a base (3a), two side walls (3c) and front walls. The base extends between the side walls and exhibits slot-shaped openings (6) for accommodating ends of a flat pipe of a heat exchanger. The openings exhibit narrow sides (6a) and longitudinal sides (6b) similar to cross section of the flat pipe ends. The narrow sides are arranged within wall thickness of the sidewalls. An independent claim is also included for a heat exchanger with a collecting tank.
