PURPOSE: A transmission power control apparatus of a wireless communication system is provided to improve the performance of the wireless communication system by controlling a transmission power by using a path loss which is changed by an environment of a wireless link. CONSTITUTION: A signal receiving unit (102) receives a reference signal. A path loss calculating unit (104) calculates a path loss by comparing a size of a transmitted reference signal with the size of the received reference signal. A transmission power size determining unit (106) determines a size of an optimal transmission power which minimizes an error of a transmission signal by using the calculated path loss. A signal transmitting unit (108) transmits the transmission signal in the size of the determined optimal transmission power.
