PURPOSE: A display device and a method for controlling thereof are provided to amend a difference of a left-eye image and a right-eye image conveniently and correctly through a representative value of each reference area of the left-eye image and the right-eye image displayed on the display device. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling a display device comprises the following steps: an image processing unit (12) processes a 3D image including a left eye image and a right-eye image; a display unit (13) indicates the left-eye image and the right-eye image of the 3D image processed by the image processing unit by turns; and a control unit (14) determines a representative value of an image of each reference area about a reference area of a position corresponding to a left-eye image and a right-eye image mutually, and indicates the representative value in at least one of the left-eye image and the right-eye image.
