An aperture device 300 has a position adjustment body 302, such as a sphere or ball or cylinder, configured for adjusting a position of a one of aperture holes 304. Electromagnetic radiation is to propagate through the selected aperture hole 304. A guide unit 306 is configured for guiding the position adjustment body 302 along a predefined guide direction. An aperture body 308 has aperture holes 304 and engagement sections, wherein the position adjustment body 302 is engagable in one of the plurality of engagement sections to thereby select one of the aperture holes 304. A pre-loading element such as helical spring 310 is configured for pre-loading the position adjustment body 302 towards the aperture body 308, and a drive unit 312 is configured for driving the aperture body 308 to move so that the position adjustment body 302 is engaged in one of the engagement sections. The device may be used for liquid chromatography or other physical, chemical or biological analysis.
