PURPOSE: An anti-inflammatory composition using vladinol F isolated from F. erecta var. sieboldii is provided to suppress generation of NO, PGE2 (prostaglandin), and inflammatory cytokines (TNF-alpha, IL-1beta, and IL-6). CONSTITUTION: An anti-inflammatory composition contains vladinol F as an active ingredient. A method for isolating vladinol F from F. erecta var. sieboldii comprises the steps of: dipping F. erecta var. sieboldii leaves, stems, or a mixture thereof in a mixture solvent of ethanol and water and preparing a power extract; suspending the extract in distilled water, and sequentially fractioning to obtain a dichloromethane fraction; coating a celite surface with the fraction and performing column chromatography using hexane, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, and methanol to obtain 4 purified materials; performing normal phase column chromatography of a second purified material using hexane:ethyl acetate:methanol (1:2:0.2, v/v) to obtain total 20 purified materials; performing normal phase silicagel column chromatography of 16th purified material among 20 purified materials using chloroform:methanol (10:1, v/v) and preparing total 18 purified materials; and collecting 9th purified material among 18 purified materials.
