The method involves configuring an electronic-mail interface i.e. simple mail transfer protocolinterface, of each of a set of video cameras (C1-C3) such that notifications from the cameras are transmitted to an electronic-mail address corresponding to a gateway (P). The notifications are received by the gateway, and content of each notification is converted into a signaling message e.g. Session Initiation Protocol message. The message is transmitted to clients (T1, T2, A) e.g. communication terminals or applications, of a multimedia subsystem (MS) registered with the cameras. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a gateway for allowing communication between a video camera and a multimedia subsystem (2) a program comprising instructions for performing a method for assuring communication between a video camera and a multimedia subsystem.
