PURPOSE: A composition for preventing and improving osteoporosis is provided to contain a DSX extract as an active ingredient which has an excellent activation on bone formation by measuring fission ability of bone cell, activation on alkaline phosphatase, and collagen synthesis. CONSTITUTION: A food additive comprises an extract of complex crude drug as an active ingredient. The complex crude drug comprises angelica gigas, Houttuynia cordata, Bupleuri Radix, Paeonia japonica, Atractylodis Rhizoma alba, hoelen, Moutan Cortex Radicis, glycyrrhizae radix, Menthae Herba, Gardeniae Fructus and ginger in a ratio of 1-10;1-10:1-10:1-10:1-10:1-10:1-10:1-10:1-10: 1-10:1-10 (w/w). The extract is added in one liquid selected among water containing purified water, alcohol having 1-4 carbons, or a mixture of the water and the alcohol. The food additive comprises 0.1-50wt% of the extract of the complex crude drug.
