593876 Processing biomass Provided is a method of producing a treated biomass comprising: (i) providing a lignocellulosic biomass feedstock; (ii) determining the lignin content of the biomass feedstock; (iii) irradiating the biomass feedstock with ionizing radiation, wherein the amount of ionizing radiation is sufficient to depolymerize the biomass feedstock or produce cellulose chain scission therein, thereby providing a treated biomass having reduced recalcitrance relative to the recalcitrance of the biomass feedstock. Suitable irradiation dosages in relation to the lignin content are also provided. |
