PURPOSE: A display device and a driving method are provided to display a left eye image to an odd line during an N-th frame period, display a black image to an even line, display the black image to the odd line during an (N+1)-th frame period, and display a right eye image to the even line. CONSTITUTION: A first retarder(31) of a pattern retarder(30) is faced with odd lines of a display panel(10). The first retarder converts a phase of light of the display panel into first circular light. A second retarder(32) is faced with even lines of the display panel. The second retarder converts the phase of the light of the display panel into second circular light. The display panel displays a monocular image to the odd lines during an N-th frame period, display a black image to the even lines, display the black image to the odd lines during an (N+1)-th frame period, and display other monocular images to the even lines.
