PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cleaning a contaminated material such as soil contaminated with a harmful metal compound.

SOLUTION: A soil or the like contaminated with a harmful metal compound is brought into contact with a cleaning liquid containing α-amino acid and ferric chloride to thereby utilize a catalytic action of the iron (II) to separate and extract a metal contained in the metal compound as a water-easily soluble α-amino acid metal compound from the soil or the like.
