The method involves partly compensating periodical returning troubles by a pilot control of a rotation speed course to reduce deviation of characteristic pump output pressure course in relation to a reference pump output pressure course i.e. constant pressure pattern. A pump element (32) e.g. internal gear, is rotatably driven by a drive device (2) i.e. electromotor. A layer actual value of the pump elements is detected. A rotation speed reference value is determined depending on the layer actual value for determination of pilot control data. An independent claim is also included for a rotation speed-variable pump.
