PURPOSE: A polymer dispersed liquid crystal lens using a plastic polymer film substrate is provided to reduce a light loss and to obtain high light transmission characteristics and high-speed switching and auto shading functions. CONSTITUTION: Polymer dispersed liquid crystals are formed by uniformly dispersing droplets of a liquid crystal(30) with a diameter of 1-5 um on a polymer film of 5-50 um. A polymer matrix(25) fixes the liquid crystal. When an electric field is not applied, a liquid crystal orientation agent is randomly aligned in the droplet to scatter light, and when the electric field is applied, a liquid crystal is aligned toward the electric field and the light is transmitted. Transmittance is determined by a difference between an ordinary refractive index of the liquid crystal and a refractive index of the polymer. When the electric field is removed, the light is scattered. |
