<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an additive for a lubricating oil, which has extreme pressure performance equivalent to that of an existing extreme pressure agent containing a metal element and moreover has a friction and wear reducing effect in use for lubrication, which essentially does not include any metal element or the like, and which exhibits high safety. <P>SOLUTION: The friction and wear reducing agent for a lubricating oil is composed of a copolymer (A) which includes an alkyl acrylate (a) represented by formula (1) and a hydroxyalkyl acrylate (b) represented by formula (2) as indispensable constituting monomer, of which the composition ratio of (a) to (b) is described by equation (a)/(b)=(50/50)-(90/10) (molar ratio), and the weight average molecular weight is 2,000 or more and less than 40,000 (in formula (1), R<SP POS="POST">1</SP>represents a 10-18C alkyl group, and in formula (2), R<SP POS="POST">2</SP>represents a 2-4C alkylene group). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
