<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for identifying ambient signal data in a test signal data set (112, 220). <P>SOLUTION: A cumulative amplitude distribution of data elements is identified in a test signal data set (112) in order by amplitude values (124). Data elements (120) comprise frequency values and the corresponding amplitude values (124). A subset of data elements (120) is identified from the test signal data set (112). The subset of data elements (120) comprises the data elements (120) with the amplitude values (124) greater than a first threshold value.
