PURPOSE: A vehicle lamp device and a controlling method thereof are provided to subdivide an operation scenario of the vehicle lamp device corresponding to the situation of an object, thereby improving performance of the vehicle lamp device. CONSTITUTION: A detection unit(200) detects an object which is in the traveling direction of a vehicle. The detection unit comprises an infrared ray irradiation unit(220) and an infrared camera(210). A sensor unit(300) senses a driving speed value of the vehicle. A lamp unit(400) irradiates light according to the command information which is inputted from a control unit(100). A data unit(500) comprises a pre-stored speed range value and a pre-stored illumination value.
