In a control apparatus for a vehicle provided with an engine and a first motor generator that output running drive power to a drive wheel, and an electricity storage apparatus that stores electric power for driving the first motor generator, when the vehicle weight is at a reference state during deceleration/braking, braking force is produced mainly by the first motor generator out of the first motor generator and the engine, and when the vehicle weight is greater than the reference state, braking force is produced mainly by the engine out of the first motor generator and the engine so as to obtain sufficient braking force while an input limit for the electricity storage apparatus is prevented from being reached.
