PURPOSE: An automatic transmission apparatus of a vehicle and a control method thereof are provided to perform a lock-up function in a slow running or stopping state, thereby preventing decline of efficiency due to a torque converter. CONSTITUTION: A power transmission clutch(70) delivers power of an engine. A lock-up clutch(50) delivers the power of the engine to the input shaft of a transmission. The lock-up clutch mechanically makes a torque converter to be connected directly to the engine. A TCU(Transmission Control Unit)(30) controls the transmission. A brake signal(11), a vehicle speed signal(13), and a gearshift signal(15) are delivered through CAN(Control Area Network) communication to the TCU.
