Provided is a washing machine which is configured so that the efficiency of removal of stains on laundry is improved by simple improvement of a door for opening and closing a laundry insertion opening. A washing machine is provided with a washing tank (3) which is supported within an outer housing (2), a rotating drum (4) which coaxially rotates within the washing tank (3), and a door (6) which opens and closes a laundry insertion opening (20) provided in the outer housing (2). The washing machine is configured so that a protrusion (66) which protrudes toward the inside of the rotating drum (4) is provided on the outer surface of the bottom plate (60a) of the door body (60), the bottom plate (60a) facing the inside of the rotating drum (4) when the door (6) is closed, and so that, when laundry which is carried up within the rotating drum (4) drops, the laundry comes into sliding contact with the protrusion (66) and frictional resistance is applied to the laundry.
