Method for monitoring the production process of hot-finished pipes made of steel

The method involves detecting outer surface of defined portion of the tube (4) immediately subsequent to rolling process in exit side region of rolling stand (5) linearly by an optical laser stripe method in a clocked manner in form of profile lines. The lines are combined to form a two-dimensional topography which is evaluated to assess process state. The outer surface of tube is detected in spatially-resolved and time-resolved manner. The topography is compared with reference image of already rolled tube of same steel grade class and nominal dimensions of same measurement location.
