A flexible sealing member 24 for use in sealing the joint between two relatively-movable parts is formed with two end sections 31, 32, Fig. 2, for connection to the said parts and a continuous intermediate section 34 constituted by a surface generated by movement in a predetermined path of a line whose angle relatively to a plane in which the path extends is continually changing as it moves in the path so that the slopes of adjacent portions of the continuous section taken in the direction of the generating line are different. As shown, the surface 34 is generated by a line which oscillates up and down about an interior point 36a, Fig. 3, as it rotates around the axis A of the member 24 and so forms two sizes of bulges 35, 36. The generating line when projected may or may not pass through the axes A or it may pass through an axis which is located at different points as different parts of the surface 34 are formed. The position of the point 36a may also be varied both radially and in different planes as the generating line is rotated. As shown in Fig. 1, the end sections 31, 32 are respectively connected to the tub 3 and transmission casing 16 of a washing-machine, the transmission being arranged to drive a clothes basket 2 and agitator 7. If desired, one or both of the end sections may be closed. |
