PURPOSE: A portable terminal and a control method thereof are provided to visually give feedback on a pointer location by connecting a user pointer to virtual visual effects. CONSTITUTION: A display unit(151) includes a visual generation unit. A display unit displays one or more selection target objects receiving determined three-dimensional depths. A sensing unit(140) senses the location and distance of a pointer for a portable terminal. A control unit(180) displays predetermined visual effects corresponding to the distance and location of the pointer on the display unit.
